The cold weather is upon us, please remember to test your smoke alarms.

Homes fires happen more often in winter than any other season because of the increased use of heating systems. Remember to test your smoke alarms. It is recommended that you do the following:

• Testing alarms at least once a month and cleaning the units in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Installing new batteries at least once a year.
• Keeping batteries in alarms and never borrowing them for other purposes.
• Replacing all alarm batteries immediately upon moving into a new home.
• Replacing alarms every 10 years.

It could save a life.

It is important to install a carbon monoxide detector in your home. However, carbon monoxide detectors do not replace the need for prevention through yearly maintenance and inspection of heating systems and appliances.

Please take the time to protect your family.
