Breakfast: Really the Most Important Meal of the Day?

BreakfastHow many times has someone reminded you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? The common question is “what can I eat”? Or many suggest that they don’t eat anything at all. I honestly cannot leave home without having breakfast. Personally I find if I don’t eat breakfast, I am hungry all day, and my food choices for the rest of the day may not be the best. I try to think of what I’m going to eat for breakfast the night before.

For instance if I wanted to have an orange with my breakfast I would peel the orange the night before and place in a plastic baggie in the fridge. I’ve also seen me place my cereal in a bowl, put the spoon beside it. I have even boiled eggs the night before and placed them in the fridge, for the morning. In our house the morning routine is very hectic and even though we should have lots of time is goes so quickly.

Here are some breakfast ideas:

• Hot or cold cereal
• Whole grain bread, bagel or English muffin
• Low-fat muffin
• Scramble or boiled eggs
• Healthy smoothie
• Cottage cheese, yogurt
• Fresh fruit

How have you managed to fit a balanced breakfast into your busy schedule?
