North Sydney, Nova Scotia – As part of the “Shop of the Class” 2013 event, Mactech Distance Education partnered with Sport Chek to provide new, warm winter coats to 39 deserving children in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

The event, put on by the Cape Breton Regional Police and the Mayflower Mall in partnership with the Cape Breton Victoria School Board, identifies the most deserving children in our local elementary schools to participate in a fun-filled afternoon of shopping.

“We’re honored to be part of such a wonderful event” says Heather Sophocleous VP of Operations with Mactech “This is a great opportunity for deserving children to receive some special treatment this holiday season.”

On December 6th, the children were provided with police escorts as they shopped the mall to spend a generous mall gift certificate. This year in addition to the gift certificates and the new winter coats, the children also received a lunch, a craft session, goodies for stockings and door prizes, donated from local merchants.

It was a fantastic day that brought joy and smiles to the face of many.
