Did you know that the number of lives lost each year through suicide exceeds the number of deaths due to homicide and war combined?
Efforts to prevent suicide have been celebrated worldwide on Suicide Prevention Day – September 10th – each year since 2003. The 2014 theme of World Suicide Prevention Day is ‘One World Connected’. This theme reflects the fact that connections are extremely important in combatting suicide.
To help raise awareness that today is Suicide Prevention Day Mactech Distance Education employees show their support by writing ‘LOVE’ on their wrists.
“We do this in memory of a beautiful young girl from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and for anyone who has thought of, attempted, or succeeded in taking their own life.” says Laurie Hancock, Mactech employee.
Mactech Distance Education encourages you to write ‘love’ on your wrist or wear something yellow to show your support for those struggling with suicidal thoughts.
If you or anyone you know is struggling and needs someone to listen, please talk to your loved ones or reach out to a qualified professional. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-TALK) provides a 24-hour, toll-free hotline available to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress and is available in the US and Canada.
