We are pleased to have Lucas Hancock, son of long-time employee Laurie Hancock, working with us today as part of the Take Our Kids to Work program.
This is an annual national program in which Grade 9 students are hosted by parents, friends, and volunteers at workplaces across the country every November. The program supports career development by helping students connect school, the world of work, and their own futures.
Lucas will be experiencing and learning about the work we do here at MDE as he begins to explore his own career path. Spending a ‘day in the life’ at a workplace is a fun and fascinating way to explore the world of work, think about career options, and make informed educational decisions.
Research suggests that today’s students will have multiple careers over the span of their working years. To be successful, they will need to master new technologies and complex social systems. Learning in school becomes more relevant to students when they can see where their education might lead them in the future.
This program benefits students, teachers, schools, parents, communities, companies, – and, of course, Canada’s future workforce!
